For hockey coaches who have not been a playing goalkeeper themselves it is a challenge to effectively coach a goalkeeper. One must spend time understanding the mechanics of goalkeeping skills and then devise thoughful skill practices that not only improve a goalkeepers technique but also keep a goalkeeper motivated. Then there is the mental training for goalkeepers which is a another knolwedge base again.
Therefore as a field player coaching background I was always looking for knowledge, understanding, and practice drills that could help goalkeepers who were under my coaching control especially when you do not have the luxury of a specialist goalkeeping coach as an assistant. Through searching and researching goalkeeping resources I found three resources which have been compiled by qualified hockey personnel. Each resource is worth reviewing as they independently insight and application to the task of coaching goalkeeping.
