Hockey Tasmania Chairman and former Hockey Australia Board member Mr Ken Read is one of three candidates nominated to replace outgoing FIH (Federation of International Hockey) of president Leandro Negre, of Spain, along with India’s Narinder Batra and Ireland’s David Balbirnie.
The vote will take place on Saturday 12 November 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as part of the 45th FIH Congress.
Hockey Australia president David Hatt who publically announced his nomination said Read has been “an outstanding servant to hockey for many years” in a multitude of guises. His influence has been felt throughout the sport, from his home state of Tasmania, across Australia and on the global stage through his roles with the International Hockey Federation.”
Ken, a barrister from Hobart, Tasmania, has been serving as Chair of the competition’s committee of the FIH for the past 8 years. He was chosen for this role by the current FIH President, Leandro Negre. He has been actively involved with the set up of the FIH World League as we know it, which helped many countries to participate in international tournaments.
He is an advocate for growing the game of hockey globally and ensuring hockey remains as a priority Olympic sport. Ken has stated;
“My vision is for the Hockey Revolution to fund the development of the game worldwide to provide every young person in every nation with the dream that they can compete at the Olympics in the magnificent sport of hockey. I am committed to chairing the board of FIH in a collaborative manner. In this way all continents will have a voice, everyone will be listened to. Our sport will benefit as a result.”
