Experiencing muscular pain is ‘part and parcel’ to playing hockey. These muscular aches and pains are common and often caused by unaccustomed use or overuse of ligaments, tendons, and fascia (the soft tissues that connect muscles). The occurrence of general pain is more common when players are competing in tournament events where more than the customary one game a week is played in a short period of time or a player has a low level of fitness. In both these cases DOMS will occur (Delayed onset of Muscle Soreness). Then there is pain caused by muscular and joint injury.
There are numerous ways of alleviating pain and facilitating healing. One that is gaining in popularity and worthy of writing this article about is Painmaster. Painmaster MCT is self -adhesive electro- patches, which emit small amounts of electrical energy, helps your body to overcome pain significantly, possibly relieving musculoskeletal discomfort. This micro current therapy (M.E.N.S) aids the human body in creating the ideal environment for self-healing. It helps stimulate an electrical field at the cellular level to enhance circulation. Consequently, as the blood flows more actively through the pain area, it uses more oxygen and promotes a faster, more natural healing.
Painmaster is a compact versatile, small unit that is easy to wear 24/7. It is
- Completely self contained
- No electrical sensations (Not TENS)
- Works below sensory threshold
- Cumulative effect
- May assist in long term healing
- Battery lasts up to 300 hours
- Wear as required day or night for relief
- May help reduce reliance on pain medications
How Does The Current Work In The Body
The Painmaster MCT technology is based on the ARNDT – SCHULTZ Law which states that: “Weak stimuli increases physiological activity and very strong stimuli inhibit or abolish activity.
The biologically sensitive stimulation effect of micro current picks up where the bodys own electrical current fails, as the human body must adhere to the natural law of electricity which is : “ electricity must take path of least resistance. Therefore, its electrical current is destined to move around an injury or defect, rather than through it. By normalizing cell activity, inflammation is reduced while collagen producing cells are increased. Healthy cell metabolism creates a healthy, pain free internal environment.
Are Painmaster and TENS the same?
This question is often asked but no they are quite different. Micro Current Therapy (M.E.N.S) works at a level approximately 1000 times less than TENS, so it can’t be felt by the user. Importantly, M.E.N.S works at the cellular level to promote cellular regeneration, reduce inflammation and therefore may assist in pain relief, rather than working as a pain blocker. With Painmaster, users typically wear the product for long sessions such as all day or all night for ongoing pain management and not short term pain relief.

Ex Pro Skier – Long Term Knee Pain
NSW. December 2016
I am a 57 year old ex pro skier who has had knee reconstructions (one from motorbike accident (medial lateral) and one from skiing (ACL plus torn achilles), have run and gym almost daily for over 35 years. I have had a couple of arthroscopic cleanups on my knees over the decades and periods where I have been immobilised through knee pain and swelling. Haven’t ever used anti-inflamatories as I prefer just to work through it naturally. Last year I ruptured the miniscus in my left knee and have had a very painful recovery period lasting almost 12 months. A few weeks ago I came across Painmaster at a chemist next to my gym in CBD Sydney and I bought one. I have used it at nights for the past 2 weeks and while I am not running, I am training for 1 1/2 hours a day at the gym and amazingly I have no pain. It took a few days before I really noticed a big difference but 2 weeks on I am a total convert. The range of motion I now have is getting back to my athletic days and I am able to really push the leg strength training now. Brilliant find!!
Having used Painmaster I would recommend that it is one of items you have in your hockey bag for a time when pain arrives. To obtain a Painmaster click on the below link
